Background of Clinical Indications
It is clinically used for the auxiliary diagnosis of anemia and monitoring of treatment. In patients with iron-deficiency hypohemoglobin anemia, the level of transferrin increased, but its iron saturation is very low. On the contrary, if the anemia is due to the red blood cell's impaired utilization of iron, the serum transferrin is normal or low, but the iron saturation increased.
