There are several diagnostic tests that can be used to assess pancreatic function

There are several diagnostic tests that can be used to assess pancreatic function. Some commonly used tests include:

  1. Fecal elastase test: This test measures the levels of a protein called elastase in the stool. Elastase is produced by the pancreas and is responsible for breaking down fats in the intestine. Low levels of elastase in the stool may indicate pancreatic insufficiency, which is a condition in which the pancreas is not producing enough enzymes to digest food properly.

  2. Serum amylase and lipase tests: These tests measure the levels of two enzymes, amylase and lipase, in the blood. Amylase is produced by the pancreas and helps to digest carbohydrates, while lipase helps to digest fats. Elevated levels of amylase and lipase in the blood may indicate pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas.

  3. Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS): This test uses a specialized endoscope equipped with an ultrasound probe to visualize the pancreas and assess its function. EUS can be used to detect abnormalities in the pancreas, such as cysts or tumors, and to evaluate the flow of pancreatic juices.

  4. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI): This test uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to produce detailed images of the pancreas and surrounding organs. MRI can be used to detect abnormalities in the pancreas and assess its function.

  5. Pancreatic function tests: These tests involve the use of special dyes or chemicals that are ingested or injected and then measured in the blood or urine to assess pancreatic function. Some examples of pancreatic function tests include the secretin-pancreozymin test, the pancreolauryl test, and the cholecystokinin test.

Overall, the specific diagnostic test used to assess pancreatic function will depend on the individual patient's symptoms and medical history, as well as the suspected cause of any pancreatic dysfunction.

α-AMY】α-amylase Assay Kit (EPS Substrate Method

Usage
This kit is used to quantitatively detect the activity of α-amylase in human serum in vitro.

Background of Clinical Indications

It is used for the auxiliary diagnosis of acute and chronic pancreatitis, acute appendicitis, hepatitis, hepatic cirrhosis and other diseases. Increased amylase activity: seen in patients with acute pancreatitis; acute abdomen: acute appendicitis, intestinal obstruction, ulcer perforation, etc.; chronic pancreatitis, mumps, salivary gland suppuration, etc.; it can also cause a slight increase in amylase. Decreased amylase activity: seen in patients with hepatitis, hepatic cirrhosis, liver abscess, etc.
