Elevated levels of creatinine in the blood can indicate kidney dysfunction

A creatinine assay kit is a laboratory tool used to measure the level of creatinine in a biological sample, such as blood or urine. Creatinine is a waste product produced by the muscles and is filtered out of the blood by the kidneys and excreted in the urine. Elevated levels of creatinine in the blood can indicate kidney dysfunction.
Creatinine assay kits can be based on different measurement techniques such as Jaffe method, kinetic methods, enzymatic methods and colorimetric methods.
Jaffe method, an older method that measures creatinine with alkaline picrate reagent.
Kinetic methods, such as the creatinine assay using the modified kinetic Jaffe method, which is more accurate and less prone to interference from other substances in the sample.
Enzymatic method, which uses creatinine-specific enzymes to measure creatinine levels.
Colorimetric method, utilizes a color-changing reaction to measure creatinine levels.
These kits usually come as a kit that contains all the necessary reagents and equipment for performing the assay, including a microplate, a creatinine standard, and a buffer solution. Instructions for use are included with the kit, and the results are typically reported as a concentration in units of mg/dL or µmol/L.
It's important to note that creatinine level alone may not be sufficient to diagnose a kidney disease. It should be used in conjunction with other tests such as BUN, urine analysis and imaging studies.
